Mole Screening in Dunstable

Know your skin. Know what to look out for.

Changes to moles and other skin lesions are common, but knowing when something needs further assessment can be difficult.

At Leander Jayne Aesthetics, I offer private mole screening to assess moles and other areas of concern and help you understand whether further assessment may be appropriate.

Worried about a mole?

You may have noticed:

• A new mole or skin lesion

• A change in the size or shape of a mole

• A change in colour

• A mole that looks different from your others

• Itching, bleeding or crusting

• A lesion that simply doesn't look right to you

If something has changed or you're concerned about a particular area, it's worth getting it assessed.

What happens during your appointment?

I'll talk through your concerns and examine the area you're worried about. I'll consider the appearance and characteristics of the lesion and discuss what I recommend based on my assessment.

Where appropriate, I may recommend that you seek further assessment through your GP or an appropriate specialist service.

A mole screening appointment isn't a diagnosis of skin cancer, and not every mole that looks unusual will be cancerous. The important thing is that concerning changes are appropriately assessed.

When should you get a mole checked?

You should seek medical advice if you notice a mole or skin lesion that is changing or behaving differently. A useful way to remember some of the warning signs is ABCDE:

A – Asymmetry: one half looks different from the other.

B – Border: the edges are irregular, uneven or poorly defined.

C – Colour: there are changes in colour or several different colours within the lesion.

D – Diameter: the lesion is increasing in size.

E – Evolving: the mole or lesion is changing in appearance, size or symptoms.

Other changes such as bleeding, crusting or persistent itching should also be assessed.

What if further assessment is needed?

If I'm concerned about a lesion, I'll explain why and advise you on the appropriate next step. This may include contacting your GP or seeking assessment through an appropriate dermatology service.

I won't recommend aesthetic treatment to an area that I feel needs medical assessment first. Your safety always comes first.
